Solar Inverters

Inverter or UPS

Inverter is used to convert 12 volt DC system to 220 volt and 50Hz AC system.
There are two kind of inverters
Modified sine wave inverters
Pure sine wave inverters
Most standard electrical devices, such as microwaves, refrigerators, hand tools, televisions and computers can be used with the cheaper Modified sine wave type. Other devices, such as high quality audio equipment, fluorescent lighting and devices with digital timing circuits (e.g. digital microwaves and washing machines) can only be used with the Pure sine wave type.
Please be aware that when using an inverter, it should be connected directly to the battery bank and the battery bank must be of sufficient size to be able to cope with the potentially high current draw of the inverter. Theoretically, a current of 1A on the AC side of the inverter can become 20A on the DC side (A = V x W).
When operating 220V-240V appliances via an inverter, you also need to consider the efficiency of your inverter. Pure sine-wave inverters typically operate at 90% efficiency, whereas modified sine-wave inverters are normally 80% efficient. If you were operating a 1000W device, you need to increase this to 1111W for a pure sine-wave inverter (1000 divided by 0.9) and 1250W for a modified (1000 divided by 0.8).
